The Science of Blow drying
In order to select the correct Salon Hair Dryer it can be helpful if you understand what it is you are actually doing when you are heat styling or “Blow drying” with a blow dryer.

Now, whether you are using a salon hair dryer or a high st blow dryer – the science of blow drying hair is the same.
Hair is made of a protein called Keratin. Which in turn is made up of chains of proteins called polypeptide chains. These are held in place with hydrogen bonds that determine its shape and whether you hair is naturally curly, wavy or straight. Hair which has not been styled is in a natural state is known as alpha keratin.
When hair is washed these temporary hydrogen bonds break and can then be reformed into a new, different shape by blow drying, brushing and heat styling, commonly known as “Blow Drying”. This process means you can curl straight hair, smooth frizzy hair or straighten curly hair. Or to simplify, simply blow drying into a desired style.
This reformed (Blow Dried”) stage is know as beta keratin… and yes, your hairdo has a scientific name, by blow drying you make your hair into beta keratin!
Why is this important??
Well if you don’t dry your hair properly and leave it damp, it can revert back to alpha keratin…you lose your style. That cold shot button on all our hair dryers cools the hair quickly after heat styling locking the beta keratin stage in better. So, when you get caught in the rain, now you know it is the change back to alpha keratin that makes you style flop.
Humidity has the same effect , gradually letting your revert from beta to alpha keratin and its natural shape.
This is where styling products come in, as many have moisture barriers and chemical polymers to assist styling. This, together with smoothing the cuticle of the hair leads to better hold and shine.
Why do we provide free nozzles?
Well, nozzles are important for a number of reasons. they concentrate the airflow along the hair shaft, this should always be from root to tip. Never point the dryer from tip to root as this will guarantee friz. Evenly applying heat and air along the hair shaft in the correct directing with a brush will provide a smooth more polished style, not forgetting to finishing each section with a cold shot of air… fast cooling means locked in style.
Finally a word about simple hair dryer maintenance.
It is essential that you regularly clean the filter of your hair dryer. This is to maintain the correct airflow across the heating element. Did you know that dirty filters together with dropping your hair dryer, are the number 1 cause of early failure of hair dryers? Not only that, not cleaning your filter will invalidate your warranty. Finally try to avoid wrapping the cord tightly around the dryer for storage. This can result in the wire becoming damaged and fail.
